Lateness and manual payroll quietly add up, week after week. Use the calculators below to see your numbers, then start a free trial to fix them.

The real cost of poor workforce management

Absence and manual processes cost UK businesses more than most realise. The figures below come from published research and government sources, and they are exactly the problems Computime is built to help you manage.

9.4 days

Average sickness absence per UK employee per year

A record high, up from 5.8 days before the pandemic. Source: CIPD Health and Wellbeing at Work report 2025.

Estimated annual cost of workplace sickness to the UK economy

Up to £24.65

Statutory sick pay for a single day of absence in 2026/27

The flat rate is £123.25 a week, or 80% of normal weekly earnings if lower. Waiting days were removed in April 2026, so day one now carries a cost. Source: gov.uk statutory sick pay.

Accurate time, attendance and absence data is the first step to managing these costs. Computime has helped UK businesses track hours, reduce payroll errors, and stay on top of absence for over 35 years, with Bradford Factor absence reporting and real time entitlement tracking built in.

How much is lateness costing you per week?

Fifteen minutes of lateness per employee per day adds up to 1.25 hours a week each. The default pay rate comes from ONS average weekly earnings, based on a 37.5 hour week. Adjust both sliders to match your business.

Total: £618.75 per week

Computime automatically flags late arrivals and tracks patterns to help you reduce lateness and recover these costs.

How many hours do you spend collating payroll per week?

Set the time your team spends collating hours each week, and what that time costs you. The total is what your current process is worth in staff time alone.

Total: £90.00 per week

Computime integrates directly with Sage Payroll, with export for Pegasus and QuickBooks, cutting collation from hours to minutes.

I was tasked with sourcing a computerised time and attendance solution to replace our manual clocking system. The Computime website contained all the information I needed, making the decision straightforward. The software proved easy to use and the helpdesk was very helpful and friendly. Computime have exceeded all of our expectations and objectives. I would definitely recommend them.

We have been with Computime for almost a year now, the Time & Attendance package they provide is brilliant and calculates everything automatically. We were a bit concerned at first as we have quite a few bespoke shift patterns and rates, but the support team have been brilliant working with us to make sure everything works as we need. The self-service absence portal is also a great asset to any company and has saved us a lot of valuable time.

Time and attendance FAQs

What does time and attendance software cost?
Syncro Connect costs £2 per employee per month, or £3 with the GPS mobile app, billed annually, with no setup fees and no long-term contracts. Optional clocking hardware is a one-off cost from £395. You can start with a completely free trial, no card required.
How quickly can we be up and running?
With Syncro Connect you can sign up for a free trial and see your first clocking in minutes, with nothing to install. If you need clocking terminals, our Leeds team arranges installation and training around you, with minimal disruption.
Do we need clocking hardware?
No. Staff can clock in from the web or their own phone with the mobile app, with no fixed hardware at all. If you want terminals, we supply facial recognition, fingerprint, and swipe card options, and you can mix hardware and app clocking in one system.
Does it work with Sage, Pegasus, and QuickBooks?
Yes. Realtime integrates directly with Sage Payroll, and both products export for Pegasus and QuickBooks, so approved hours flow into payroll with no manual re-keying.
What size of business is Computime for?
There is no minimum headcount, and our systems scale to 5,000 employees across a single site or many. Syncro Connect is the simple starting point for most businesses, and Realtime adds HR records, access control, and job costing for larger or more complex workforces.
Is clocking data safe, and does it meet UK GDPR?
Syncro Connect data is stored in the UK, with access logged and restricted to named users. Biometric data is special category data under UK GDPR, so it needs a lawful basis and usually a data protection impact assessment before you roll it out. Our data security page sets out hosting, access, retention and compliance in full.
What support do you provide?
Support comes from our own team in Leeds, the same people who build the systems. When you call, you speak to someone in Leeds who knows the product, not an overseas call centre, from your first setup through the life of the system.

See your first clocking in minutes

Start a free trial of Syncro Connect today, from £2 per employee per month, or book a short demo and our Leeds team will walk you through the right system for your business.

Time and attendance glossary

Time and attendance has a language of its own, and the terms are not always obvious from the outside. This glossary explains the twenty you are most likely to meet when choosing or running a system, in plain English, with a line on why each one matters. It is arranged so you can read it straight through or jump to the term you need.

Cloud vs installed workforce software

The choice between cloud and installed workforce software is really a choice about who does the work of running it, and how you want your team to reach it. Cloud puts the system on the supplier's servers and lets you use it from any browser or phone. Installed sets the system up for your organisation, which can bring a wider feature set and tighter control. Neither is better in the abstract.

Visitor management compliance guide for UK premises

No UK law says you must keep a visitor book. That surprises people, because almost every premises has one. The duty is real, but it comes from three separate places rather than one, and the way most organisations meet it, an open paper book on the reception desk, now creates a data protection problem of its own. This guide sets out what the law actually requires, what you should and should not record, and how long to keep it.
